Supporting Children Impacted By A Parent's Cancer Diagnosis
Providing Emotional Support and Resources for Coping with Trauma

Our Story

The Lonon Foundation was born from a personal journey of love, loss, and resilience. After the devastating diagnosis of stage III head and neck cancer, Michael Lonon, a healthy 29-year-old, faced a battle that would change the course of his family's life. Following his passing in April 2014, his wife Anna recognized the profound impact of grief on their young son, Jack, who was only four years old at the time. In search of support, Anna discovered a camp designed for children like Jack, which provided a safe space for healing and connection.

Inspired by the positive change this camp brought to Jack, Anna, along with a dedicated group of family and friends, established The Lonon Foundation in September 2016. The foundation's first event, the Hike for Mike, raised funds to launch the UPLIFT program, co-founded by compassionate College of Charleston students. UPLIFT (Using Play, Love, Inspiration, and Friendship as Therapy) offers free monthly events for children aged 5-17 who are affected by a parent's or caregiver's cancer diagnosis.
