Our Story

Founded in 1998 by Kathy Dean, Longhopes Donkey Shelter began as a personal quest to find donkeys. This journey revealed the harsh reality faced by many unwanted donkeys, often at risk of slaughter. In response, Longhopes was established as a dedicated facility for their rehabilitation and training, becoming the first accredited donkey shelter in the U.S. by the Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries.
