About Orchestra Long Island

Established in 2017, Orchestra Long Island carries forward the rich musical legacy of the Long Island Philharmonic. Under the visionary leadership of former Philharmonic Music Director David Stewart Wiley, a dedicated group of musicians and passionate educators came together to form this vibrant orchestra. Orchestra Long Island attracts talented musicians from Long Island and the New York Metropolitan area, many of whom have performed on Broadway and are members of prestigious ensembles such as the American Ballet Theatre Orchestra and the New York City Ballet.

Our Musical Mission

Orchestra Long Island presents an eclectic range of music from all eras, including beloved classics and contemporary compositions. Performances take place in diverse settings, from summer concerts in the parks to professional concert venues and intimate small-ensemble performances at schools and community venues. Education is at the heart of OLI’s mission, with programs designed to inspire aspiring musicians and engage audiences.

Impacting the Community

Through its Arts-in-Education program, OLI offers Performance Partner Residencies, in-school small ensemble performances, and coaching workshops led by orchestra members. Future initiatives include a young artist competition and master classes, ensuring that the next generation of musicians is nurtured and supported.
