Our Story

On a warm spring evening, inside the crowded emergency room waiting area of Good Samaritan Hospital in West Islip, Long Island, a family faced a painful moment. An individual with special needs sat with his parents, enduring mockery from three young people. The laughter and hurtful words echoed, leaving the family feeling humiliated. Among the onlookers was Joe Salamone, who recognized the familiar pain of being mistreated. Instead of reacting with anger, Joe decided to channel his feelings into a positive force for change.

Determined to create a world where such incidents could be prevented, Joe teamed up with seven like-minded individuals to form the Long Island Coalition Against Bullying. This organization is dedicated to combatting bullying in all its forms and fostering empathy, understanding, and acceptance within the community. Inspired by that fateful night, LICAB's journey began, and its impact on Long Island's communities continues to grow, one act of kindness at a time.

Impact

LICAB's presence in schools has been transformative, contributing to inclusive environments where every student feels safe, valued, and empowered. Through workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns, LICAB educates students about the detrimental effects of bullying while promoting empathy, respect, and understanding. The coalition has successfully fostered a culture of acceptance and tolerance, encouraging young individuals to embrace diversity and celebrate differences.
