Our Story
Founded in 1993, Long Beach Meditation has become the longest-serving nondenominational meditation center in Long Beach. What began as a small gathering organized by Dr. Victor Byrd, PhD, in the Naples area has blossomed into a vibrant community. In 2010, Long Beach Meditation was incorporated as a nonprofit organization, marking a significant milestone in its journey. The center began offering meditation classes and workshops in 2013 at the Peace Builders location in downtown Long Beach. After several years, a move to the Bay Shore Community Congregational Church in Belmont Shore in 2017 provided a beautiful and welcoming space for practice. Under the guidance of Jokai Blackwell Roshi since 2018, Long Beach Meditation continues to thrive, offering a sanctuary for individuals seeking to learn and practice meditation and mindful awareness.
