Long Beach BLAST: A Beacon of Hope for Youth

Founded in 2000 by attorney and youth advocate Jean Egan, Long Beach BLAST was created to address the needs of at-risk youth in Long Beach. The organization emerged from the Long Beach Strategic Improvement Plan, which highlighted the lack of a citywide focus on improving youth well-being. Long Beach BLAST bridges the gap for socioeconomically disadvantaged students by providing them with opportunities to engage in productive activities, meet academic standards, and prepare for college and careers.

Making a Lasting Impact

Since its inception, Long Beach BLAST has inspired over 20,000 at-promise youth. The Academic Mentoring Program and Bridge to Success Program connect students with positive role models, fostering personal and academic growth. Remarkably, 100% of surveyed mentees in grades 6-12 reported intentions to graduate high school, and 91% of Bridge to Success students plan to attend college.
