North Branch Works

Our Story

Founded in 1982 as an affiliate of the New City YMCA, the Local Economic and Employment Development Council, now known as North Branch Works, became an independent nonprofit in 2001. Serving the North River, Addison, and Kennedy Industrial Corridors, this organization has partnered with hundreds of businesses to address operational challenges, enhance land use, and improve access to city services. North Branch Works played a pivotal role in establishing Planned Manufacturing Districts (PMDs) to safeguard affordable industrial spaces and sustain Chicago’s employment base.

With over 100 partners, the organization strengthens connections between businesses and their communities while coordinating essential city services.
