About UFCW Local 1500
Chartered in 1937, UFCW Local 1500 has grown to become one of the largest unions in New York State, representing over 17,000 members across Queens, Staten Island, Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Putnam, and Dutchess Counties. This union is dedicated to advocating for the rights and welfare of retail workers, ensuring they receive fair treatment, respect, and a voice in their workplaces.
Through decades of commitment and leadership, UFCW Local 1500 has established a reputation for delivering outstanding contracts and passionately servicing its members. The union has a rich history of working with well-known companies such as Fairway, King Kullen, D’Agostinos, Stop & Shop, Gristede’s, and ShopRite, which have been integral to the New York community.
During the global pandemic of 2020, UFCW Local 1500 demonstrated its unwavering support by securing retroactive hazard payments for frontline members and distributing over 65,000 masks to ensure their safety. Under the leadership of President Robert Newell and Secretary-Treasurer Aly Waddy, the union continues to fight for fair schedules and strong union contracts.
