Our Story

In 2003, a young man in Old Town Fort Collins inspired the creation of The Matthews House. After aging out of foster care with no resources, he faced homelessness. This motivated the establishment of a safe haven for system-involved youth, providing essential support to break the cycles of poverty and abuse. Over the years, The Matthews House has expanded its mission to include family support, helping hundreds of families annually to strengthen relationships and prevent crises.

Impact

Last year, The Matthews House provided housing navigation and stability to over 60 youth, preventing homelessness. More than 150 students received educational support, with 87% of Learning Hub participants graduating on time. Family programs reached over 500 families, with 88% reporting improved relationships and 66% moving toward self-sufficiency. Foster youth engaged in our programs are twice as likely to be employed and four times more likely to graduate high school compared to national averages.
