Our Story

The Joseph House, founded by Sr. Mary Elizabeth Gintling in 1965, is dedicated to helping the poor, hungry, and homeless on the Delmarva Peninsula. Initially established in Baltimore, the organization moved to Salisbury, Maryland in 1978, where it continues to operate under the principles of assisting those who fall through the cracks of the welfare system, utilizing volunteers, and relying on Divine Providence for funding.

In 2023, The Joseph House made a significant impact by providing 1,685 checks for vital needs, distributing 4,086 bags of groceries, and serving 7,767 meals in their soup kitchen. This demonstrates a strong commitment to alleviating poverty and supporting the local community.
