For over 45 years, Literacy Mid-South has been dedicated to enhancing literacy in the Mid-South region. Founded in 1974, the organization has expanded its focus from adult literacy to include family literacy and support for students struggling to read at grade level. Literacy Mid-South has made a significant impact by serving thousands of adults and children, helping to reduce the illiteracy rate in Shelby County, where one in seven adults are functionally illiterate and three out of four third-graders read below grade level.
