Our Story

The Literacy Council of St. Mary’s County, founded in 1985 by Sister Sara Ann Abell, is dedicated to providing one-on-one tutoring for adults seeking to improve their reading, writing, and math skills. Governed by a volunteer Board of Directors, the Council relies on trained volunteers to deliver essential educational services.

Impact

Over the years, the Literacy Council has transformed countless lives by enhancing literacy skills, leading to increased self-esteem and better job opportunities.
