Our Story

The Literacy Council of Carroll County was founded in 1979 by Sister Rosalia and Kathryn Sieverts to promote literacy by training tutors to teach reading, speaking, spelling, and math to youth and adults in Carroll County. Over the years, the organization has expanded its services and programs to meet the needs of the community, including partnerships with local schools and organizations.

Impact

The Literacy Council has significantly increased its programs and budget, doubling its fundraising efforts and staffing to meet community needs, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic by transitioning to virtual learning.
