The Literacy Council of Alaska (LCA) has been a beacon of hope since 1973, dedicated to reducing illiteracy in the Fairbanks community. Starting with just nine students and twelve volunteers, LCA has grown to offer a variety of programs that serve youth and adults alike, including the only used bookstore in Fairbanks.

In 2021, LCA celebrated significant achievements with 65 students graduating with high school equivalency diplomas and 68 new English Language Learning students enrolled.
