In the wake of the devastating floods of 2008, the Linn Area Education Association's Community Foundation Inc established the Teacher Store to support K-12 educators in Cedar Rapids and surrounding areas. Since its inception in 2009, this nonprofit organization has been dedicated to bridging the resource gap for teachers by providing free classroom supplies when funds are limited. The Teacher Store has evolved over the years, adapting to the needs of educators and students alike.

After facing structural damage in June 2018, the Teacher Store reinvented itself as a mobile unit, allowing it to reach teachers directly at their schools. This innovative approach not only enhances accessibility for educators but also extends the store's reach to surrounding counties, ensuring that more teachers can benefit from essential supplies. In August 2024, the Teacher Store expanded operations by moving into a new dedicated space in Hiawatha, providing year-round access to vital resources for educators.
