Our Story

The Athenaeum Music & Arts Library, founded in 1894 by a group of visionary women in La Jolla, California, began as the La Jolla Reading Club. It transformed into the Library Association of La Jolla in 1899, evolving into a nonprofit membership library that champions music and arts. Over 125 years, the Athenaeum has expanded its facilities and offerings, becoming a cornerstone of cultural enrichment in San Diego.
