Founded in 2001, Liberty Arts is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to making art accessible to everyone in the Durham community. Located at 918 Pearl Street, this vibrant collective of artist studios and a foundry at Durham Central Park has become a cornerstone of local creativity. Over the years, Liberty Arts has produced some of the most iconic sculptures in Durham, including the beloved Major The Bull, which stands proudly in the heart of downtown.
In the past seven years, Liberty Arts has taught over 1,000 classes to more than 2,700 students, fostering a love for the arts in our community. The artists have created over 30 pieces of permanent outdoor sculpture, enriching public spaces in Durham and beyond. Additionally, over 25 scholarships have been awarded to community members, ensuring that art education is accessible to all.
