Our Story
The Liberation Foundation, founded by exoneree Terrance Lewis in 2019, emerged from a vision born during his wrongful incarceration. Originally known as the Terrance Lewis Liberation Foundation, it was officially established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in May 2020. The foundation began with Project RIC (Research, Investigate, Compile) to advocate for wrongfully convicted individuals in Pennsylvania. In 2021, with support from the University of Pennsylvania, TLF expanded its initiatives to include Project HOPE, launching its first reentry program at State Correctional Institution Coal Township. Today, TLF collaborates with universities and correctional facilities across the East Coast, providing vital support to those affected by the justice system.
Our Impact
The Liberation Foundation is dedicated to securing justice for wrongfully incarcerated Pennsylvanians and addressing issues of disproportionate sentencing and misconduct. To date, over 150 participants have successfully graduated from the Project HOPE Reentry Program, equipping them with the tools needed for a successful reintegration into society.
