Our Story
Let’s Get Free was co-founded in 2013 by etta cetera, Avis Lee, Donna Hill, and Charmaine Pfender during the 1 Billion Rising event, aimed at ending violence against women. This organization focuses on supporting women and trans prisoners, advocating for commutation reform, and promoting transformative justice. The founders' personal experiences with incarceration have shaped the mission to build community and relationships across prison walls, emphasizing the importance of art and education in advocacy work.
Impact
Let’s Get Free has successfully supported numerous individuals in navigating the commutation process and provided direct assistance to formerly incarcerated individuals. Their initiatives, such as the Softer Landing Fund and the Let Grandma Go campaign, aim to provide tangible support and advocate for legislative changes.
