Our Story

The Legal Rights Center was founded in 1970 by Black and Indigenous community activists aiming to create a law firm dedicated to serving low-income communities and communities of color. This initiative emerged from the inequities faced during the Civil Rights Movement, with a focus on providing culturally sensitive legal counsel and social justice advocacy.
