Our Story

In April 2011, the plight of animals at the Cass Lake impound came to light, revealing a desperate need for assistance. With limited resources available to the Leech Lake Tribal Police, a dedicated woman named Lisa had been tirelessly transporting and placing dogs since 2010. Seeking help, she reached out to Karen Good of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, who connected her with Jenny Fitzer and other animal advocates. On May 7, 2011, they rescued nine dogs from the impound, marking the beginning of a transformative journey for countless animals.

Making a Difference

Since then, Leech Lake Legacy has hosted spay and neuter clinics, providing essential medical care to thousands of animals. Our first clinic in March 2012 altered 91 animals and vaccinated an additional 75, while also taking in 49 surrendered pets. Through collaboration with other organizations and the dedication of our volunteers, we continue to impact the lives of animals in need.
