Our Story

Founded in 1989, the Lee County Literacy Coalition (LCLC) emerged from a national initiative led by First Lady Barbara Bush to promote literacy across the United States. Local leaders, including Thomas Brawner and Judith Peterson, recognized the urgent need for adult literacy services in Lee County. With their efforts, LCLC was established as a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing free one-on-one tutoring in reading, math, writing, and GED preparation. For over three decades, LCLC has been a proud United Way agency, making a significant impact in the community.

Impact

LCLC empowers individuals by providing essential literacy services, creating new opportunities for personal and professional growth.
