Our Story
In 2014, a group of American high school basketball coaches was invited by the Basketball Federation of Mali to lead an elite basketball camp for the nation’s top teen athletes. They discovered that beneath the drive to succeed in basketball, these teens were in desperate need of hope and basic needs. This realization led to the formation of Leather and Iron, a nonprofit organization dedicated to developing the children of today into the leaders of tomorrow through basketball and community development. In 2018, the organization moved to Mali to bring this vision to life, focusing on equipping local leaders to address critical community needs.
