Our Story
In 2005, a dedicated group of volunteers from North Chatham County, North Carolina, recognized a pressing need in their community. They discovered a mobile home community housing over 200 low-income families, primarily Hispanic, whose children faced challenges in their academic journey. Many of these children struggled with the English language and were often behind their peers in school. To address this, former teachers initiated a free after-school tutoring program. What began with a handful of children has blossomed into a thriving initiative, now supported by nearly 55 volunteer tutors serving approximately 45 students across various educational programs, from preschool to middle school, including enriching activities.
Our Impact
The Learning Trail has made a significant difference in the lives of countless children, enhancing their academic skills and providing exposure to enriching opportunities. Teachers have noted that students from the Learning Trail appear more prepared and focused in their studies. With the introduction of an enhanced Early Childhood Program, kindergarten readiness has improved, ensuring that our youngest learners start their academic careers on equal footing with their peers. Additionally, our Parent Education Program fosters a community of informed parents, equipping them with knowledge about early childhood development and school expectations.
