Our Story
Founded in 1980 by Dr. Raymond W. DuCharme, The Learning Clinic (TLC) was born from a vision to provide research-based therapeutic education for children facing academic and behavioral challenges. With a strong foundation in educational psychology, Dr. DuCharme recognized the need for a program that not only addresses learning difficulties but also fosters self-confidence and emotional well-being.
Over the years, TLC has developed a unique educational community that integrates individualized learning styles with comprehensive support. The programs offered include Day, Extended Day, Residential, and Assisted Living, all designed to nurture each child's developmental needs. TLC stands out as one of the few institutions in the United States to provide a computer curriculum specifically for gifted children with disabilities.
From its inception, TLC has achieved remarkable milestones, including the establishment of community-based programs and a wilderness initiative that allows students to explore the natural beauty of Northern Maine. The integration of innovative teaching methods, such as coding, 3D printing, and virtual reality, has enriched the educational experience, ensuring that every child can succeed.
