Our Story

Founded in 1988 by the Boston Bar Association and the Massachusetts Bar Association, Lawyers Clearinghouse connects nonprofit organizations dedicated to affordable housing and homelessness with volunteer attorneys offering pro bono legal assistance. Over the years, the Clearinghouse has expanded its services to include educational workshops for nonprofits and lawyers, legal clinics at shelters in the Boston area, and innovative programs like the Access to Justice Fellows Program, which engages retired legal professionals in community service.
