Empowering Youth Through Legal Support
In 1978, the Lawndale Community Church identified a critical need for affordable legal services among local residents. This led to the establishment of the Lawndale Christian Legal Center (LCLC) in April 2010, dedicated to serving young people aged 24 and under in Lawndale, Chicago. LCLC offers free legal services, guiding hundreds of juveniles and emerging adults through the complexities of the criminal justice system.
Transforming Justice in the Community
In 2017, LCLC made a significant impact by collaborating with the North Lawndale Community Restorative Justice Hub and the Circuit Court of Cook County to create the first-ever Restorative Justice Community Court (RJCC) in North Lawndale. This innovative court provides a platform for young adults to resolve disputes, take accountability, and repair harm, offering a humane alternative to incarceration.
Making a Difference
With an impressive 87% of active LCLC clients not being rearrested, the organization is proving that change is possible. Your support can help continue this vital work.
