Our Story
Fields For Kids (FFK) was established in October 2006 by a passionate group of over 200 local parents, led by Jim Hanley, who recognized the urgent need for better playing fields in Larchmont and Mamaroneck. The disparity between the superior athletic facilities available in neighboring areas and the local options was stark. As local governments struggled to meet the growing demand for quality playing spaces, community members took action, attending Village, Town, and School board meetings to advocate for improvements.
In January 2007, FFK collaborated with the Village of Larchmont and the Town of Mamaroneck to apply for Westchester County's Legacy Grant Program. This effort resulted in a significant grant of $2,550,000, which funded the construction of a turf field and renovations of Flint and Lorenzen parks. The Alexander Alma Memorial Field at Flint Park officially opened on October 8, 2010, marking a major milestone for the community.
Building on this success, FFK partnered with the Mamaroneck School District to renovate Memorial Field at the high school, which opened in March 2011. In 2014, FFK turned its focus to creating a baseball complex at Lorenzen Park, completing the project in time for the 2017 baseball season. With renewed energy from new board members in fall 2022, FFK is once again addressing the community's recreational needs, working with local municipalities and the school district to develop a sustainable long-term master plan.
