Our Story

The Lakewood Theatre Company began in November 1952 when a group of Lake Oswego residents organized the Oswego Players to fill a cultural void in their community. After performing in various venues for nine years, they acquired a vacant church in 1961, which became their first permanent home. In 1979, they expanded their mission and became the Lakewood Center for the Arts, focusing on a multi-arts facility and community engagement. A significant renovation project in 2003 enhanced their facilities, allowing them to serve a growing audience with high-quality programming.

Impact

Lakewood Theatre Company has successfully engaged audiences from the Portland metropolitan area and beyond, achieving an average sell-out rate of 85-90% for its productions. The organization has also established a strong educational program, offering classes for both youth and adults, and has become a cornerstone of the local arts community.
