Our Story

The Great Lakes Aquarium (GLA) began as a dream in 1989 when Lake Superior Center was incorporated to promote freshwater education. Since opening its doors on the Duluth waterfront in 2000, GLA has evolved to showcase the diverse ecosystems of the Great Lakes Basin and beyond. Visitors can explore habitats featuring animals from the Amazon River and marine environments, including North America’s largest sturgeon touchpool.

Impact

Great Lakes Aquarium engages over 10,000 pre-K-12 grade students annually through on-site and outreach educational programming. Daily interpretive programs allow guests to learn about resident animals while observing their natural behaviors.

Why Donate?
