Our Story

In the late 1930s, Excelsior hosted an annual 'Klondike Day' as part of the WPA recreation project, featuring a thrilling dog derby. This beloved event saw a revival in the 1970s and was reimagined in 2018 by Bethany Hway, leading to the inaugural Klondike Dog Derby in February 2020. The organization is dedicated to celebrating the sport and spirit of sled dog racing while educating the community about the incredible athleticism of sled dogs and their mushers.

Impact

Net proceeds from the Lake Minnetonka Klondike Dog Derby are donated to nonprofit partners, including Can Do Canines, Adopt a Husky MN, and ICA Food Shelf, supporting both two- and four-legged friends in the community.
