Our Story
The Lake County Youth Ice Hockey Association, known as the Vipers Hockey Club, was established in 1984 to provide local youth with the opportunity to play hockey close to home. Originally based at the Zion Park District Ice Arena, the club was named the Zion Atoms, reflecting the nearby ComEd nuclear power facility. Over the years, the organization has evolved, moving to the Lake County Sports and Fitness Center and finally settling at Rink Side Ice Arena in 2003. Throughout its history, the Vipers have prioritized fun, development, and affordability, ensuring that every child can experience the joy of hockey.
With a commitment to excellence, the Vipers Hockey Club has consistently fielded championship teams in both the Central States Developmental Hockey League (CSDHL) and the Northern Illinois Hockey League (NIHL). The organization is dedicated to fostering a supportive environment that emphasizes personal growth, sportsmanship, and community engagement, while also adapting to the competitive landscape of youth hockey.
