Our Story
The Laboratory of Developmental Neurobiology, founded in 1961 by Joseph Altman at MIT, has been a pioneer in neuroscience research for nearly 60 years. After relocating to Purdue University, the lab, under the guidance of Shirley A. Bayer, has made groundbreaking discoveries linking rat and human nervous system development. Despite funding challenges in the 1990s, the lab continued its vital research, resulting in significant publications, including the comprehensive 5-volume Atlas of Human Central Nervous System Development.
