Our Story

LA Compost began in 2013 through the dedicated efforts of volunteers, friends, and family. This organization is committed to ensuring that food is never wasted but instead returned to the soil, fostering a sustainable cycle of life. Initially, a bike-based collection crew transported organic materials to local compost centers. However, as Los Angeles expanded, LA Compost transitioned to a decentralized model featuring community compost hubs. These hubs, maintained by local residents, cater to the unique needs of their neighborhoods, enhancing community engagement and promoting local composting.

Impact

In 2023, LA Compost successfully diverted 1.8 million pounds of organic waste from landfills, significantly contributing to a healthier environment and fostering community involvement.
