Our Story

In 2001, a dedicated group of parents and community leaders in Wilmington came together to address the urgent need for high-quality public education and increased access to arts education. This collaboration led to the establishment of Kuumba Academy Charter School (KACS), the first school model in Delaware to partner a public charter school with a nonprofit community organization, Christina Cultural Arts Center (CCAC). This innovative partnership has fostered a unique educational environment where academics, arts, technology, and family engagement converge, nurturing each student's individual learning style.

Impact

Since its inception, KACS has prepared nearly 800 children for bright futures, excelling in personal, academic, and artistic endeavors. As a premier Vision 2015 Network School, KACS leads the way in closing the achievement gap in Wilmington.
