About Kota Alliance

Kota Alliance was founded in 2015 by Jaana Rehnstrom and a dedicated group of Finnish expatriates in New York City. With a rich background in medicine and a passion for gender equity, Jaana recognized the urgent need for stronger nonprofit collaboration to address social inequities. Inspired by Finland's commitment to gender equity, Kota was established to create a supportive space for women’s empowerment in Harlem. In 2022, Kota moved into its own building, strategically located to serve under-resourced, diverse communities.

Our Impact

The Kota Alliance connects grassroots initiatives with global issues, focusing on social change for Black and Latinx women and girls in West Harlem and beyond. By employing a collaborative feminist approach, Kota fosters equitable communities for all marginalized identities through advocacy, arts, and health-wellness programming.
