Our Story

KopeLion was founded in 2011 through a collaboration between lion researchers and the local communities of Ngorongoro, Tanzania. The organization focuses on developing sustainable models for positive coexistence between pastoralists and lions, employing local warriors, many of whom were former lion killers, to monitor and protect these majestic creatures.

Impact

Since 2017, lion observation has increased by an average of 12% per year, indicating a successful return of lions to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area’s community lands.
