Education About Local History

Welcome to Klyne Esopus Historical Society Museum

Housed in the former Klyne Esopus Reformed Dutch Church, built in 1827, this museum stands as a testament to the community's dedication to preserving its history. Originally constructed to replace a smaller church from 1792, the building faced demolition in 1965. However, the former congregation and local community rallied together, forming the Klyne Esopus Historic Preservation Committee in 1969. After 17 years of fundraising and restoration efforts, the museum opened its doors to the public. In 2002, it was designated a State and National Historic Landmark, recognizing its unique architectural style.

Impact of the Museum

Today, a dedicated group of volunteers works tirelessly to make history accessible and engaging for visitors of all ages. However, the museum requires repairs and improvements to enhance its facilities and ensure it remains a vibrant community resource.

Why Donate?

Donations are crucial for the museum to host larger events and programs. A permanent pavilion on the grounds would protect outdoor activities from the elements and generate rental income, allowing for more community engagement.
