Our Story

Kitsap Legal Services was established in 1989 by a dedicated group of attorneys committed to providing free legal assistance to low-income individuals facing civil legal challenges in Kitsap County. Initially operating within the YWCA and later with KCR, it became an independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit in 2002. The organization has significantly expanded its services and staff, especially after the passage of Senate Bill 5160 in 2021, which granted low-income tenants the right to legal representation in eviction proceedings.

Impact

Since its inception, Kitsap Legal Services has successfully assisted hundreds of low-income residents with civil legal issues, particularly in eviction defense, ensuring that vulnerable populations have access to justice.
