Our Story

Kiski Valley Opportunities Unlimited (KVOU) was founded in 1971 by compassionate community members who recognized the need for individuals with developmental disabilities to have a voice in their living arrangements. In 1973, KVOU purchased a home in Vandergrift, PA, providing a nurturing environment for five residents. Nearly 50 years later, KVOU continues to operate this home and four additional residences, ensuring that individuals can thrive as integral members of the Kiski Valley community.

Our Impact

KVOU operates five licensed community homes in Armstrong and Westmoreland Counties, adhering to Title 55, Chapter 6400 and 6100 Regulations. These homes assist individuals in acquiring essential self-help, socialization, and adaptive skills, fostering independence and community integration.
