Transforming Futures in Rural Kenya

What began as a chance meeting in 1999 has evolved into a life-changing initiative for the children of Kilgoris, Kenya. Jon and Caren McCormack, while on safari in the Maasai Mara, met Wilfred Lemiso, a local villager. Their friendship blossomed over shared values and a vision for a better future for the children in Wilfred's community.

Recognizing the need for educational resources, the McCormacks supported the construction of a church that would also serve as a preschool. In January 2003, the Enkijabe Empiris Preschool opened its doors, welcoming 75 eager students. This success inspired the community to replicate the model, leading to the establishment of several more schools, including Oloowang Preschool and Intimigom Preschool.

Today, The Kilgoris Project operates multiple campuses, serving over 2,100 children from preschool through eighth grade. Each school integrates health and nutrition programs, ensuring that students receive meals and health check-ups alongside their education. This holistic approach not only nurtures the mind but also supports the physical well-being of the children.

In 2013, TKP launched Kumea Mizizi, a for-profit Eucalyptus tree farm, to create a sustainable funding source for its educational programs. This initiative exemplifies the commitment to long-term sustainability and community partnership.
