Our Story
Kids Cook! was founded in 2000 by Hope Miner and Mary Meyer, who piloted the first cooking classes at Alvarado Elementary in Albuquerque Public Schools. With a passion for nutrition and education, they successfully funded the program through the AmeriCorps Vista initiative. In 2001, Hope became the founding director, expanding the program to include more schools, such as Dolores Gonzales Elementary, which remains a vital partner today. By July 2009, Kids Cook! was officially recognized as a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization.
Over the past two decades, Kids Cook! has reached over 45,000 students across approximately 50 APS schools, fostering a love for cooking and healthy eating among children and their families. The program emphasizes the importance of nutrition, cultural appreciation, and family bonding through cooking.
