The Kiawah Women’s Foundation was founded in 2013 by Terry Weaver and Theresa Widuch, inspired by a school principal's revelation about the food insecurity faced by students. The Backpack Buddies Program was initiated to provide weekend food bags for children in need, and has since expanded to support even more local children through various programs.
Last year, the foundation packed approximately 8,000 bags of food for over 300 students, significantly alleviating weekend hunger in the local community.
