Our Story
Founded in 1997 by 1.5 and second-generation Cambodian youth, Khmer Girls in Action emerged from a community grappling with the aftermath of genocide and systemic neglect. In Long Beach, where many Cambodian families resettled, young women took on the responsibility of supporting their families amidst violence, poverty, and educational challenges. Meeting in a parking lot by Poly Burger and La Lune, these youth transformed their gatherings into a powerful movement for change, advocating for racial, gender, and economic justice.
