The Inspiring Story of Keris Kares
In November 2013, at just four years old, Keris Nicole Bembry was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor known as Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG). After experiencing severe headaches and balance issues, her parents sought help at Scottish Rite in Atlanta, where an MRI revealed the devastating diagnosis. Despite the challenges, Keris chose to embrace life with joy and courage, wearing a crown and a beautiful dress on the day of her diagnosis, symbolizing her strength and resilience.
Throughout her journey, Keris faced numerous obstacles but was surrounded by a royal court of support from her family, friends, and medical team. She traveled to various hospitals in Atlanta, Houston, and Cincinnati, fighting her tumor with unwavering determination. Although the tumor remained inoperable, Keris filled her days with love, laughter, and adventure, never allowing her diagnosis to define her. On July 12, 2015, Keris gained her wings, leaving behind a legacy of hope and inspiration.
In honor of her spirit, Keris Kares was established to provide hope and support for families dealing with childhood cancer diagnoses. The mission is to offer spiritual, emotional, and financial assistance while raising awareness about pediatric cancers and funding research for cures.
