In 1984, a dedicated couple, Ann and John Henry, recognized a critical gap in Oklahoma's education system: the lack of qualified teachers trained to help children with dyslexia. Their journey led them to the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, where they discovered the effective Alphabetic Phonics method. With the generous support of Katheryne B. Payne, they initiated a program that would change the lives of countless children struggling with reading.

Over the years, the Payne Education Center has evolved into a beacon of hope for educators and families alike. By training over 18,000 teachers in multisensory, evidence-based reading techniques, the center has significantly improved literacy outcomes for students with dyslexia across Oklahoma. In 2023 alone, 875 educators and professionals were trained, and 62 trainees achieved national dyslexia certifications, showcasing the center's commitment to excellence in education.

The Payne Education Center serves as a vital resource and referral center, providing essential training and support to educators, parents, and advocates. In 2023, the center offered over 1,627 hours of referral services, ensuring that families have access to the resources they need to support their children. The center's accreditation by the International Multisensory Structured Language Education Council (IMSLEC) further underscores its dedication to high-quality teacher training.
