Our Story

Founded in 1992 by Lindsay Pettus and a group of passionate conservationists, the Katawba Valley Land Trust was established to protect the significant natural and cultural areas of Lancaster County, South Carolina. The first property protected was a 1.1-acre tract on the Catawba River, acquired in 1995, marking the beginning of a dedicated effort to conserve the region's unique landscapes.

Our Impact

Over 32 years, KVLT has successfully conserved 13,789 acres across 7 counties through 113 land transactions, fostering environmental education and community engagement.
