Our Story

Founded in May 1998 by the Late Chairperson Lekha Srinivasan, Karuna Charities Washington Inc. is a grassroots organization dedicated to uplifting the lives of the needy and disadvantaged, particularly women and children, in the United States, India, and beyond. Through various forms of assistance, including financial aid for housing, legal fees, and job training, the organization helps individuals regain their dignity and independence.

Impact

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Karuna Charities made a significant impact by providing approximately $19,000 to food banks and shelters in the DC metropolitan area, along with $10,000 in medical supplies to those affected in India. Scholarships for women at educational institutions have also been established, promoting independence through education.
