Promoting and Preserving Traditional Music and Dance

Our Story

The Kalavant Center for Music and Dance is a vibrant non-profit cultural organization founded in June 1997. With a mission to promote and preserve the rich traditions of South Asian music and dance, particularly Indian classical music, the center opened its doors on September 12, 1998, with a spectacular inaugural concert featuring renowned musicians. Under the guidance of founder-director Ustad Kadar Khan, a passionate traditional Indian musician based in New York City, the center brings together community leaders to harness the healing power of music.

Impact

Focusing on the highest level of performance and education in Indian classical music, the Kalavant Center enriches the cultural landscape of New York City while preserving the diverse traditions of South Asian music and dance.
