Our Story

The Kalamazoo Humane Society was founded in 1897 to combat the mistreatment of animals. Initially addressing both animal and child welfare, the organization has since focused solely on animal welfare. With a commitment to preventing cruelty, it has launched impactful programs like 'Operation Fix-It' to tackle pet overpopulation. Operating from a former bridal shop since 1997, the society has expanded its services to include an emergency pet food bank, ensuring that pets receive the care they deserve.

Impact

Since 2002, the Kalamazoo Humane Society has performed over 80,000 spay and neuter surgeries, assisted 751 clients through its Emergency Pet Food Bank, and distributed over 51,904 lbs of food and cat litter to those in need. Additionally, it has provided 14 dog houses to pets living outdoors without adequate shelter.
